What to Do if Your Safe is Jammed
If you own any kind of safe, you may run into the unfortunate circumstance at some point where you find your safe is jammed or, for whatever reason, will not open. Depending on the kind of safe you own, the make and model, as well as other additional factors, your safe may be more at risk of jamming. Improper maintenance, wear and tear, and even entering in the wrong combination, can all contribute to a safe not opening.
If you find that your safe is jammed, you will likely want to troubleshoot the issue as soon as possible. Luckily, there are several things you can do to try to fix your safe before needing to call a professional. In this article, you will read about potential problems that can happen with safes and some things to try if you find that your safe is not working.
Make Sure You are Entering the Right Combination
While this may seem obvious, sometimes if we are in a rush or flustered for other reasons, it can carry over into our ability to perform other tasks. Try and relax and make sure that you are entering in the proper combination and in the correct order. If you own a business safe, you may want to double-check with anyone who may also have access to the safe and see if the combination was changed for some reason. If you are the only one who uses the safe, try to enter in the correct combination a few times before moving on to the next troubleshooting step.
Lockout or Time Delay Mode
If the wrong combination is entered one too many times on a safe, sometimes a mechanism will be triggered that will automatically lock anyone out of the safe. Even if the right code is entered incorrectly at some point, if the time delay has been triggered, the safe will remain locked for a specified amount of time. Within about 10-20 minutes, you should be able to re-enter the correct combination and open the safe.
